União Nacional Azul Holds Annual Conference
The Chairman of the National Ruling Council (pictured) announced a number of reforms to the economy.
Today the União Nacional Azul (National Blue Union) began it's annual party conference in the King Álvaro XVI conference centre in Pulchrá with almost 300,000 delegates from around Ouraveja attending. The conference has come at a tough time for the political party, which has ruled the nation since the 1933 Easter Monday Coup. The Ouravejan economy has been lagging behind for many years and discontent with the party has grown with some in it's ranks fearing that a redo of the 1979-1981 student protest movement could be coming in the near future. That is why the party took significant steps on the first day of the conference to reshape itself and restore it's control over the Ouravejan population.
The Chairman of the National Ruling Council, Carlinhos Jônatas Madeira, announced plans to invest almost $80 billion in infrastructure over the coming years to attract more companies to the country. However some have criticized this as the government creating jobs rather than private businesses creating jobs. Many have also said that this simply will not be enough to reduce the unemployment rate from the current rate of 13.7% of the workforce. The Chairman of the NRC was also harmed by the Catholic Church in Ouraveja criticizing him for his failure to act and help those under economic pressure. "Churches are providing more and more food banks to impoverished communities whilst the government stands by and does nothing. There are families of 3, 4 & 5 children starving yet the government does nothing to get their father back into work or to alleviate the stress placed on them. They can not claim to be Christians whilst ignoring the most impoverished" said the Archbishop of Pulchrá.
The party conference will finish on March 2nd with the Cortes Nacionais, out of which 483 of the 500 members are from the União Nacional Azul, beginning work on the parties plans in the coming weeks.
