The New Commonwealth of Northern Drax is a small nation in the South West of Auratus that is known for it's high standards of living, proactive approach on environmental protection and progressive policies. The once fragmented has made its voice heard on the international stage recently as the Union has stabilised in terms of identity, government and economically. The 60km (37.5mi) straight acts as a shortcut for shipping around the continent of Drax, which has brought in a small but notable of the nation's budget since it's opening in 1927. Along with the savings in fossil fuel trade due to the alternate energy sources provided by the Scizio Dam, the Strait has and continues to contribute a significant amount to the development of the Commonwealth. Due to it's fortunate location, the nation has a healthy mixture of forest and grassland, plenty of fresh water as it straddles two lakes, several rivers including the great Tirona, Foston and Philouri Rivers and even the edges of the Alpacian mountain range.

Northern Drax has a long history of fragmentation, cultural diversity and several distinct identities. The first notable event occurred around the year 5000 (Holocene) with the creating of the Stones of Pjordity. This mysterious collection of stones was said to be erected by the ancient Draconian peoples with primitive pulleys and tackles, although there is an air of mystery surrounding them as each of the seven stones is embedded 2m into the ground and extend a further 3m into the sky at angles varying from 90 straight up to 45. All are pointing in the same direction - towards the mountain. Another coincidence is that they are located exactly where the sun rises over the mountain peak on November 8th every year. This may have been a clock to tell when winter was upon them or maybe a shrine of worship. We will never know the truth for sure.

Research has found that in the year 8169 more people migrated to the area that is modern day Jynsk. This may have been due to it's fantastic location for resources, but sources say that some may have been escaping persecution by nature from the south. There is no record of why this may have been the case although fossil evidence has been found to support the idea of several homo sapiens being slaughtered by the wolves to the South.

The first unified force around the area was the Junkersjardian, a coalition of tribes around the Jynsk area that formed in the year 9061 (the lake was later named because of this event). Leaders of the Junkian, Tjuki and Bardic peoples gathered around the central communual area of the Junkers settlement (now known as Jynsk) to imprint on a stone tablet (paper was in early use but it is believed that the permanence of stone was superior). The 'Junkersjardipan' as the tablet came to be known, is currently on display at the Jynsk Historical Gallery.

The Junkersjardian grew over the centuries until it stretched far into the southern forests and northern plains of the area. It was when the, now civilised, peoples felt strongest and most confident that disaster struck. It was on a fateful day in January 10526 that Junkian Pioneers came across a small town where they were promptly arrested and used to find the Junkians. These people were known as the Skadaarians and they were not looking for peace. A highly militarised imperial powerhouse, ruled with an iron fist by the Emperor - Skadar. The Junkersjardian did not have a military, just volunteers who were training to be pioneers and workers to defend the land. They battles couldn't be called battles - more like massacres. The Skadaarians were held back by smiths and farmers with their equipment but brushed these people side in their wake. By February 4th 10526, they had reached the helm of Junkersjardian land - Jynia.

It was just two weeks later that the entirety that the Junkersjardian was absorbed into the greater United Skadaarian Provinces. They had murdered nearly 25,000 civilians out of the population of 500,000 and divided the country into different regions based on environment. The Junkersjardian now consisted of the Northern Province of Alpacia, the Southern Province of Avlonia and the Central Provinces of Dardan and Scizia.

The Junkians lost their national identity fairly quickly as the last original Junkians passed. Under this new regime  they were subjugated to horrific working and living conditions - the lowest status in the Feudal System, only being above certain animals and slaves. This empire lasted for a further 1500 years, the oldest Auratus has seen. It evolved during this time, however, with several structural and aesthetic changes, eventually becoming the United Democratic Skadaarian Republic.

The New Commonwealth spans the Scizio Canal (previously a land bridge) and is bordered by [member]Minotau[member] to the West, Lake Junkers to the South-West, Lake Draken to the North, [member]Ervynia[member] to the south, beyond the Alpacian Mountains, and nothing to the East so far.

Electricity Generation

The Commonwealth is powered by several sources, none of which are finite or harmful to the environment long term. Because of the huge system of rivers and lakes, a massive 94% of the nation's power is provided by the state of the art Commonwealth Dam Network, which utilises a system of 38 dams to generate a total of 149.3bn kWh of electricity annually.  The remaining power comes from Wind Power (1%), which utilises over 200 wind farms, with power mainly generated in the Njordlund Hills and off the Medius/Kalik coast. The remaining 5% of energy is from Uran Nuclear Power Station, which generates 7.9bn kWh annually using imports of Uranium-235 from [member]Minotau[member].


Transportation and Infrastructure

Petroleum and Diesel cars are prohibited in Northern Drax. You may wonder how people get around? There is a vast magnetic rail system that connects all major and minor towns and cities. It uses mains electricity to run at speeds of up to 110km/h on main lines. To connect to smaller towns and villages, a slower solar tram service runs from the major cities. About 17% of the population owns an electric motor vehicle, with special dispensation from the government for local transportation around cities or if they are very far from a major town or city. To get around locally, electric and manual bicycles are sold or provided to people with disabilities.


Air Infrastructure

There are 6 major airports which usually fly from relatively close destinations. This is because special propfan engines are required by law to land and anything else is heavily taxed upon flying through Northern Drax airspace. How steep the tariff is depends upon the fuel efficiency of the engines on the aircraft. This policy is due to increased fuel efficiency and better environmental footprint from the unducted propfan engines. Most other air operators in Auratus use regular Fan Turbine engines meaning in order to travel to Northern Drax, you must get a connection onto an Air Nova flight from Minotau, Ervynia or Hevatra. It is believed in order to make a profit in Northern Drax, many international airlines may begin operating propfan aircraft in the near future.

The two main national animals are both represented on the crest here - the Swordfish representing the honour associated with the Defence Forces especially, the naval power of the nation, and the souls of the Guardians. The Crimson Dragonfly represents a marvel of the world - graceful yet endowed with about as much respect as you can give an insect. It is also naturally endowed with the royal crimson as seen on lower segment of the coat of arms.

The three main military department symbols are immediately recognisable as ours by the four pointed star and the regal colours intertwined with the national 'nights sky' palette. The National Flag is known as the "Tobrødre" and is seen outside most public buildings and some homes in the patriotic Capital, while also commonly sighted along the Canal and coastline where the tourism industry is booming.
